Jesus had to save the entire world in 3.5 years, but you don't have to be religous to use this...
Do you want a ridiculous boost in productivity?
Buckle up because in this email I'm going to tell you about...
- a billionaire
- a King
- and a strongman
What I'm about to share with you comes straight out of the Bible.
Don't worry, we aren't going to get into any of the religiosity.
Stictly business principles.
But if you've never read it...
Let me give you the 4 sentence version, so you understand the context of today's lesson.
The first half of the book (Old Testament) fortells of a King of Kings to come one day. Then there's 400 years of silence and wars.
Second half of the book (New Testament) starts with a baby being born in a stable, and everyone believes this baby is THAT King.
When he (Jesus) turns 30 he starts his mission - to save the world.
This is where our productivity boost comes in.
Productivity ≠ Discipline
I've been doing this online business thing for 20 years now, and in that time I've watched, read, or listened to every productivity guru.
Tried all the tools.
Most of what's being sold or talked about is actually just discipline, and not actual productivity.
Trying to get more "things" done = Discipline.
Not productivity.
When you've got only 3.5 years to save the world, you don't just try to get more things done. You need to get the RIGHT things done.
That's real productivity.
That's why most of you are working all day, but still not hitting your goals. You're doing lots of things, but not the right things.
God-Like Productivity Lesson #1
Discernment.
I first learned of this when I met Mark Ford at his office. You might know him by his pen name, Michael Masterson.
Author of "Ready, Fire, Aim."
He's co-founder of the BILLION dollar publishing company, Agora, where I worked for a few years.
When I got the chance to sit with him in his office, I asked...
"How do you get enough done to run a billion dollar company?"
He said "Actually, it's not about getting a lot done, it's about getting the right things done. I spend a lot of time deciding what work should get done, and then I just put 3 things on a sticky note each day. That's my to do list."
3 things!!!
...3 THINGS!!!
... 3 THINGS!!!
It just about made me fall outta my chair.
Later, on in my life when I started reading about Jesus, I noticed this same character trait. Jesus was mission driven, He was very purposeful in everything he did.
He wasn't trying to build 3 businesses, and write a book, and start a Youtube channel, and do social media.
Everything He did was for His one purpose, and nothing else.
Let me give you a practical example.
There are 2 ways you could get 4 more clients this year...
- You could build a webinar funnel and then a META ads campaign to generate leads. Then follow up with them until you get 4 sales.
- You could get interviewed on the right podcast and have 4 clients next week (it's happened to me).
Both ways work.
One just requires A LOT less work and discipline.
Which brings me too...
God-Like Productivity Lesson #2
Rest.
Jesus took naps.
A lot of naps!
He was even sleeping on a boat during a storm with big waves.
When He wasn't sleeping He was either off somewhere praying (another form of rest) or He was having a meal with friends (more rest).
Most of the time...
Jesus was resting.
Even when He had arguably one of the biggest projects the world has ever seen.
How does rest = productivity???
In my early 30's my brother and I started going to the gym together. We got realy nerdy about it, and tracked everything.
Real simple system...
Just do 5 workouts and add 5lbs to each workout each week.
Your body barely notices the 5lbs, but it also makes the adjustments needed to grow for that tiny little exta.
After about 6 months of this, we were lifting weight that impressed the gym owner. He invited us to join his powerlifting team. Of course, we said yes, this sounded like a dream for two dudes like us.
But we had to adopt the gym owners routine...
It was CRAZY.
He had us doing all kinds of workouts and long sessions.
This lead to injuries, and we had to stop working out and left the powerlifting team.
My shoulder is still all jacked up today, 15+ years later.
Building muscle requires two things...
Work & rest.
What worked about the easy plan my brother and I followed, was that it included a lot of rest. Which allowed our muscles to sufficiently heal after our workouts.
And each time they "healed" they got a little stronger.
This is when I learned that resting is just as important as working.
In fact, resting is working.
It's the yin to the yang.
It's what charges the battery so you can work hard again.
Resting is necessary to the work, because without it you will crash and burn. You need the recovery time to come back better each time.
Many studies have shown that getting 8 hours of sleep, taking breaks, social life, and meditating all increase well being and productivity.
In fact, better rest is actually proven to help you make better decisions while at work.
This makes rest a force multiplier becuase it actually increases your discernment (see above).
What does any of this have to do with ads?
I hear you, it's been a long flight...
Let's land this plane...
Good advertising comes down to having good ideas.
Good ideas come from:
- Accurately discerning who you are targeting.
- Having a clear rested mind that can think creatively & critically.
You could do a lot less work.
Make a lot more money.
If you'd prioritize rest and discernment.
The rest will lead to better thinking, better thinking will lead to better ideas, and ultimately better discernment.
Better discernment will lead to you choosing better tasks, that have better results, with much less risk.
You could choose to be that redbull chugging maniac marketer throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks.
But Jesus was calm, clear, and restful.
They call Him the Prince of Peace.
Say whatever you want about religion, there's no denying that Jesus created BILLIONS of followers. His book outsold every other book in history and His offer is eternal life for free.
We can argue about religions, but you can't argue his results.
Rest & discern my friends.
