Cracking Social Media for Clicks & Leads
Do you sell services?
or products?
It doesn't really doesn't matter because social media has been proven to increase sales of both. It's helped B2B companies and B2C.
Fortune 500's and small start ups.
I'll get back to talking about ads next week, but I'm not just an ads guy. I'm a marketer, so whatever method gets me more traffic and leads is fine with me.
Free
Paid
Doesn't matter to me. I want it all.
I got started on Facebook back in 2009-10 before they even had a tracking pixel for their ads. Back when their ads were these little rectangle ad units on the side bar of the feed.
Yea...
I'm old.
But in that time I've figured out how to hack these platforms.
I've made 6 figures from a single Facebook post.
Gotten 170,000 views on a Twitter post.
55,000 views on a Youtube video.
Here's what I've figured out...
Every single one of these platforms has ranking signals. Meaning, elements that their algorithm looks for to decide whether to sandbag your post or let it fly.
You can work your butt off for months, but if you don't meet their specific ranking signal requirements it's like chasing the wind.
Why is Twitter my home? Because Elon opensourced the algo, DUH! I mean, what could be better than that for a traffic guy like me? Now I can read exactly how their algorithm ranks posts.
...and the secret is bookmarks to likes ratio.
If you can get 2 bookmarks for every 1 like, your posts will fly! But, if your posts don't get bookmarked often you're going to reach no one.
Doesn't matter how good your content was.
For Youtube they've published these stats too, you need a 70% consumption rate and 8% click through rate. That's why everyone is crazy about thumbnails on that platform, if you can't get a high CTR - you're toast!
Instagram is the easiest of all.
They simply just want volume.
When we started on Instagram we were doing 1 image post a day. It was getting us around 10,000 to 20,000 views per months.
Then we started doing 3 image posts per day, and now we are reaching over 1 million people per month with our posts. This works very well for shorts on Youtube as well, we started doing 3 shorts a day now we're getting 300k+ views per month on Youtube.
LinkedIn is a tough nut.
You need comments on that platform, but not just any comment, they rank meaningful comments above single word or two word comments.
I'm still working on cracking Linkedin, but my 2nd post on that platform got me over 25,000 views on my post with only 1,500 followers.
My best advice...
Stick to one social media platform until you're getting 100,000+ views a month on your posts. Until, then you need to just stay focused and learn the nuances, and if you split your time between networks you'll just make each less effective.
Master 1 profile, then go broad.
One last bit of parting wisdom, if you just want an easy pass to all of them. Every website owner wants increased session duration. Meaning, visitors staying longer on their wesbite.
This goes for little ecom start ups all the way up to big tech like META or Youtube. Session length is the one factor that they all have in common, which is why I do long form posts on just about every profile I own.
Think about Joe Rogan on Youtube, session length.
Happy traffic hacking folks.
If you get tired of doing all this stuff alone, a group of us meetup on Zoom every Thursday at 3pm eastern. We're traffic hacking together, you should drop in...
