DAILY EDGE // Google ads vs Meta ads

If you're not using Google ads yet, you will by the end of this email...

But first I have to tell you about this weekend!!!

What an event!

If you were watching live you saw me go from $0 to $3,000 LIVE while every button press and thought process was documented.

In total it was about 11hrs of livestreaming.

I covered market research, copywriting, web design, connecting domains, connecting forms, course creation, AI agent building, even built a whole android mobile app... all LIVE!

I built a linkedin ghostwriting agency for CEOs, an email marketing course for pastors & priests, and a mobile app for MTG gamers.

Then Sunday afternoon I auctioned off the agency and Jason won the auction with his literal last minute bid of $3,000!

WILD!

I may have even invented a whole new business model of building niche websites with AI and then auctioning them on social media the next day.

All of it is recorded on my @agentskills_ai profile.

Now back to "real" work...

1 Single Word Explains Why You Should Use Google Ads...

Let me ask you something.

What if I told you there was a line of people, right now, actively searching for the exact solution you sell? They have their credit cards out, they’re waving their hands in the air, and they are begging for your solution.

…And you’re not even there.

Instead, you’re probably grinding away on social media, trying to interrupt people’s cat videos with your ads. You’re trying to be clever, trying to be engaging, trying to create demand out of thin air. It’s exhausting, isn’t it? I know, because I’ve been in this game for over 20 years and have spent tens of millions of dollars on ads. I’ve seen it all.

I also know what it’s like to be on the other side. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon or a huge marketing budget. I started my journey with a pathetic $60 to my name, trying to turn it into something more.

I remember the feeling of needing every single dollar to work.

That desperation forces you to find the shortest path to a sale.

It forces you to find what actually works.

And what works isn’t some fancy new gimmick or a complicated funnel. It’s one simple, powerful word: INTENT.

The copywriting legend Gary Halbert said it best. He’d ask marketers, “If you and I were both going to open a hamburger stand, what advantage would you want on your side?”

People would say a better burger, a better location, lower prices. Gary would just shake his head and say, “I’d want a starving crowd.

That’s it.

That’s the whole game.

Find A starving crowd.

Social media ads are about trying to make people hungry. Google Ads is about finding the people who are already starving. They are literally typing “I’m hungry for a hamburger” into the search bar. Your only job is to be the first hamburger stand they see.

This is what I call the Intent Match Strategy, and it’s so simple it’s almost criminal. It’s the strategy that took me from $60 to 6-figures 20yrs ago, and I still use it to this day.

Here’s how it works: You pair the perfect buyer-intent keyword with your product page.

For example, I sell a book about retargeting. What keyword do I target? You guessed it: “retargeting book.” You don’t have to be a rocket scientist or a world-class copywriter to sell a retargeting book to someone searching for a “retargeting book.” They’ve already told you what they want. You just have to show up and give it to them.

This isn’t a fluke. This principle works in every market for every type of product, whether you’re B2B or B2C.

Selling project management software for construction companies? Target “construction project management software.”

Selling handmade leather dog collars? Target “custom leather dog collar.”

Common Arguments Against Google Ads… DESTROYED!

Now, I’ve been saying this for years, on stages, in podcasts, on Twitter, and I hear the same objections every time from the Meta ads crowd.

I think it was on a podcast or maybe it was social media, but someone said, “But Justin, you’re comparing apples to oranges. Meta creates demand, Google just captures it.”

To which I say… Of course, I’m not saying Google is the only ad network someone should use. At scale, you should be using several. But to step over the intent-soaked customers begging to buy on Google is an atrocious disrespect to your own bank account.

To ignore these easy Google ad sales, especially if you’re a startup, is a travesty if by mistake and just ignorant if on purpose.

Then there’s the volume argument.

I was on a consulting call with a millionaire who was crushing it with Meta ads. He told me, “The volume isn’t on Google.” I had to bite my lip to hold in a laugh. I told him about my first day as the Senior Media Buyer at Agora, a billion-dollar newsletter company.

You know what I did? I set up a stupidly simple branded keywords campaign. People searching for their newsletters and authors by name. It took me maybe two hours. That little campaign added 400 sales a month, which was roughly $200k in monthly value that was just being ignored because “volume” was what won recognition in the office.

Don’t overlook the easy wins.

I see it in our customer support inbox all the time. “But Meta works for me!” Great. Meta is the 2nd best online ad network to ever exist. I’m not saying don’t use it. I’m saying you should also use the #1 and biggest online ad network in the world.

It could double your business.

Surely that’s worth it.

If I haven’t made the point yet…

I was on a panel at a big conference, and an audience member thought he’d pinned me in a corner by saying “Google Ads is just too expensive.”

Look, there’s no beating around the bush, it IS more expensive.

But there’s a REASON why.

Studies consistently show that Google ads bring in better customers, at higher conversions, who spend more dollars on average than other ad network.

A 2025 analysis by Wicked Reports compared attribution and ROI between Google Ads and Facebook Ads, finding that Google Ads deliver higher long-term ROI and LTV. Google users are filled with search intent, resulting in repeat purchases rather than one-time impulse buys common on Facebook.

The report even says “Google buyers… tend to buy over and over again… This results in higher overall customer lifetime value (LTV).”

A keyword like ‘cosmetic dentistry’ in West Palm Beach might cost $50 a click, but that one click can be worth millions. Because Google is an intent-based network, the traffic converts better and the customers spend more. That’s not my opinion, it’s a fact you can look up.

And my favorite argument of all, I see it on Twitter constantly: “But Meta is for creatives.”

Eye roll. 🙄

Google Ads owns YouTube ads. It’s literally inside the same ad manager account. Youtube ads is home to some of the most creatively demanding, story-centric ad campaigns of all time. Purple mattresses, Dollar Shave Club, Dr. Squatch, Poopouri… Next question!

Some have gone as far to say “But Meta is king of Top of Funnel Awareness.”

Eye roll again, now we are REALLY reaching. You can always tell when a direct response marketer is losing an argument by them saying words like “reach” and “awareness.”

Look, Meta is great.

I’ve never said don’t use Meta.

But let’s be real.

They came after Google and have been nipping at its giant heels ever since. They’ve invented nothing and borrowed everything. The very idea for Facebook was “borrowed” by Zuck from his Winklevoss clients.

Google had interest-based targeting first, partner networks first, retargeting first, and top-of-funnel awareness campaigns first as well with their Display Network first.

Google was first, and it should be the first place you go to find your starving crowd.

If You Love Profitable Customer Growth…

Keep using Meta.

Keep interrupting peoples cat videos with your ads. Keep feeding the ever hungry Meta feed new ad creative daily.

But do yourself a favor…

Every single day, millions of potential customers are telling Google exactly what they want to buy. By not being on Google ads, you are leaving a mountain of money on the table for your competitors to scoop up.

Your business deserves to be in front of the people who are already looking for you. Stop making it hard on yourself. Stop trying to create a starving crowd and just go stand in front of the one that already exists.

Start using Google Ads.

October of 2019, I thought God was a fairy tale in the sky and then I saw overwhelming scientific and historical evidence that He was real. Alone in a hotel room, with no pastor, priest, or Bible I looked up and said, "Ok God you win!" That night I gave my life to Christ and everything changed.
